July 2025 Featured Artist: Jeff McKay

Jeff McKay was born and raised in Arkansas. Growing up, his family often vacationed in the West fueling his love for the outdoors. Fly-fishing is his biggest passion and when he began to have kids, he searched for a hobby that would allow him to spend more time at home. McKay stumbled upon a Montana artist Mike Mahoney who created paintings of trout. Inspired, Jeff taught himself to paint fish with watercolors and spend 15 years mastering his technique.

At the encouragement of a fellow artist, Jeff switched to oils and began expanding his subject matter to include the Rocky Mountain landscape he had seen as a child on family adventures to Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and South Dakota. As his art evolved, Jeff honed in on landscapes, especially aspen trees and snow-capped mountains. “I saw the Rocky Mountain states as a place where the American spirit thrived and a place without limits or boundaries. To say the least, it was magical for me.”

Jeff is a full-time professional painter and is either traveling the Rocky Mountain states in search of the next great painting or at home painting in his studio and spending time with his wife and kids.
