Richard grew up in the town of Golden, CO. His parents immigrated from Cuba in 1959, making their way from Miami to Colorado. His interest in art began while painting with his mother. Growing up in a modern western setting gave him a gave him a strong foundation for his ideas. He has studied art and architecture at the University of Colorado and Art Students League of Denver (recipient “Big Heart Scholarship”). Richard revels in the fleeting beauty of the overlooked that delivers unexpected grace to the everyday. Brushes, pallet knives, scrapers & squeegees are used with oil paints to create abstract shapes combined with realism on canvas or hardwood panels. “I walk the path between memories and dreams in my paintings”.
