From the Artist: "My daughter's husband has a passion for kiting on the lakes. Since they have a cabin on Duck Lake, I imagined a calm day there where he would not be able to kite. I used calm colors and a palette knife." - Lavonne

Lavonne Burgard creates acrylic on canvas paintings that blur the line between representational and abstract, leaving much to the viewer’s imagination to fill in, using a brayer normally employed in printmaking to depict evocative scenes with a limited color palette. “About 16 years ago, I began to paint using only a brayer to paint my large colorful paintings,” says the artist. “A brayer is a rubber paint roller ordinarily used to ink a plate for printmaking. That is an unusual tool to use. I try to be a purist with my paintings using the brayer from start to finish.”
